ROCK & ROLL HALL OF FAME
War, the pioneering pop-funk band co-founded in 1969 by San Diego native and KMEN129 My Space Buddy Lonnie Jordan, was announced this week as one of the six first-time nominees on the ballot for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Jordan, 59, is now the only remaining original member of the group who is still performing under the War monicker, having won sole legal rights to use the name. Four of War's other original members now work together as The Lowrider Band, an allusion to War's 1975 Top 10 hit, Low Rider. Should War win enough votes to make the cut, it remains to be seen if the group's estranged members will bury the hatchet for a night and perform together at the April 4 induction ceremony in Cleveland.
The other first-time nominees include: heavy-metal icons Metallica; hip-hop pioneers Run-D.M.C.; English guitar legend Jeff Beck; vintage vocal group Little Anthony & The Imperials; and veteran R&B singer-songwriter Bobby Womack. The repeat nominees are the seminal disco band Chic; rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson; and proto-punk-rockers The Stooges (the legendary, Iggy Pop-led band that has been nominated six times before but has never received enough votes to gain induction).

GET HAPPY
Is the world ready for another version of "The Partridge Family"? C'mon, get happy! Geffen Records and Sony Television apparently think so, and are working on an updated TV show.
By the way, Season Three of "The Partridge Family" comes out on DVD in October.

NO MONEY FOR EJ
You can tell the economy's gone south when no one wants to buy Elton John's hand-me-downs. A jeweled "J" brooch that Elton wore in a 1988 video was offered at auction Thursday (September 25) in London. It was expected to fetch at least $25,000. But no one bid on the gewgaw.

GET DEPRESSED
This seemed timely. Beginning Friday afternoon at 3, K/men129 presents "The Great Depression", a whole weekend of songs that will make YOUR life seem so much better.
So put down that knife, don't jump off that bridge, stay away from the window, and don't swallow those pills and crank it up!
